Well it works, but…
1) The connector, it’s a flimsy proprietary-to-usb cable, can’t use any other Mini-USB cable for example. Also the slightest nudge and it disconnects, I’ve hurt myself now a few times with this…
2) Why do they need 569MB for Drivers and software? Just give me the drive rather than make me reformat this…
3) Speed, seems slower than many other drives I’ve had…
In short I wish I’d bought another drive…
EDIT 03/08/2010: This is actually a Micro-USB connector, not a proprietary one. Fair enough but it still doesn’t fix the fact that I breathe on the connector and I lose my connection.

I was using this brand new Passport Elite to back up a less-than-one-year-old Passport Express. The Express failed DURING the backup. I returned the Express under warranty and was sent a refurbished one as a replacement. Now, I try to restore the backup from the Passport Elite onto the Passport Express or any other hard drive, and it will not restore. WD Support’s response indicates they didn’t even read my case.

There is absolutely no reason to use a proprietary plug! This is just silly. If you lose that cable you’re screwed. It’s very similar in size to one of the USB plugs, so why didn’t WD use that?
If I had known this before I bought it, I would not have supported this boneheaded design flaw with my money. Just say no to proprietary lock-in!

I purchased this p.o.s with the hopes of backing up my laptop files. Well, It backs them up alright. 6.05 gig in at least 12 hours.WD was no help at all. There response was “Maybe it takes that long”.Try the cable without the stand. You must be kidding if this is there idea of product support. WD has some serious issues with there support team. Wd My Passport Delete. It doesn’t matter what color they are all the same.
